Concerned about suspicious moles?

At Harley City Clinic we are experts in assessing moles. We will carefully examine your skin with Dermoscopy to assess each mole in detail. We do not currently provide mole mapping and for this if you are seen as a patient where this is necessary in people with several hundred moles across the body we use our partner clinics to help signpost and hand you over to them.

Danger Signs to Look Out For:

  • Asymmetry: When two sides of the mole look irregular or do not match each other.
  • Border Changes: If you notice blurred or irregular edges.
  • Colour Changes: Any color changes, including black or brown, with bits of red, white, blue, or other colors.
  • Diameter Changes: Moles exceeding 4mm in diameter, with special attention to those above 6mm.
  • Evolving Changes: If the shape, size, or color of the mole is changing, or if you experience bleeding, fluid discharge, pain, or intense itching.

Skin Protection Tips:

  • Protective Clothing: Choose dark and thicker fabrics to absorb more UV rays. Loose-fitting garments offer better protection.
  • Sunglasses: Opt for polarized lenses with 99-100% UV filtering to reduce glare and protect your eyes.
  • Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure with an SPF of 30 or higher. Reapply after perspiring, water exposure, or toweling.

Even if the temperature is not very high, always put on sunscreen before going outdoors as the strength of UV rays are often deceiving. Sunburn may seem like a short-term problem that can be soothed and repaired but it is a sign of damage to DNA in your skin and can potentially lead to skin cancer. Children who have experienced severe sunburn face a higher risk of developing melanoma later in life, so their skin must be protected at all times.
